Wine Night #1: Sweetzer Cellars
April 23rd
What began in 2008 with little more than a curiosity and gumption to give the wine making process a try, Michael Fogelman created Sweetzer Cellars. With great intentions, and a solid appreciation of the challenge ahead of him, Sweetzer Cellars was born in Fogelman’s West Hollywood apartment. Along with his co-founder, wife, Lisa, their wine has become a boutique brand, holding roughly 2500 cases of wine of which he will not release until he feels it develops and is ready. If one asks what makes Sweetzer’s Pinots different, Michael and Lisa strive for a pure, clean taste.
Sweetzer chooses grapes that grow ten miles from the ocean with nearly perfect combination of soil minerality, cool climate, and a transversal mountain range. Michael carefully chooses the vineyards he sources grapes including from: The Santa Rita Hills region, the Santa Maria Valley and San Luis Obispo. Meticulously he also hand sorts when they arrive in the winery.
Sweetzer Cellars is made in Lompoc, CA which they love for the low-key vibe. He says, “if you’re coming to Lompoc, you’re coming for the wine.” The Pinots are made of grapes grown in premiere vineyards and are considered delicate and clean. Other than Lisa who sometimes lends a hand, Michael makes the wine himself and is meticulous about every detail. The two of them are the sole Sweetzer employees, and with low overhead, they have the freedom to make the wine they want. Michael is known for holding the wines a long time in the bottle before releasing it. Making wine for Michael is a “Labor of Love”. Focused entirely on “how good the wine can be”, the 2018 batch was only recently tasted for the first time since its bottling and not all of the bottles were released. Finding the best grapes, making clean wines, expressing the vineyards and achieving balance between fruit and acid have garnered Sweetzer Cellars a loyal following of other wine makers and wine lovers.
Michael and Lisa are delighted to be part of an organization like Stellify.
Wine Night #2: Bocale
June 11th
From the winery…
“The interpretation of the environmental and cultural heritage gave life to the Bocale winery, born to treasure that ancient passion for wine handed down for generations. The completely natural wines are produced with an artisanal process that allows the varietal and territorial characteristics to be enhanced.”
The Valentini family has been connected to the City of Montefalco by history and personal experiences for over one hundred years.
The background is the special Umbria Region, full of history and culture, where the act of every farmer is full of folk wisdom, simplicity, passion and sacrifice. The family’s philosophy is influenced by the history of men working in fields, surrounded by the rare beauty of it’s hilly landscape.
This special evening we are lucky to have Sommelier Filipo Cortivo guiding us through our tasting of the Bocale Winery. In wine storage, Filipo has approximately 8,000 bottles of wine, most of which (80%) are Italian wines and the rest are from around the world. Perhaps Filipo’s greatest gift and pleasure is finding quality unknown wines of which he is regularly introducing them to friends, family, customers and other wine experts.
Wine Night #3: Cantina Randi
Aug 27th
Massimo Randi strongly believes in his idea of wine, a structured
elegant wine that can bear witness to the potential of this highly
suited area. And it is finding its way according to what it seems from the
awards received and the great satisfactions. In the vineyard we try to
produce with attention, so much so that we are in an integrated pest
management regime, with targeted treatments and only and exclusively if
necessary. No forcing, just a reading of the territory to have healthy and perfectly ripe
grapes. In the cellar the processes are not invasive and the refinement is
gentle and gradual to allow the typical characteristics of the vines to
emerge.

Wine Night #4: Vignalta
Oct 8th
The third tasting profiles wine maker, Vignalta from Veneto, which is heavy in Volcanic soil and the region where Filipo and his sister, Christina were raised.
“We are confident of the goodness of our wines, but we don’t ask you for a leap of faith: we invite you to taste them” – Vignalta Winery in Italy

Wine Night #5: Turtle Rock Vineyard
Dec 3rd
A night hosted by Mike Downey and Turtle Rock Vineyard. Previously announced this date as Rare Liquid Society. Turtle Rock Winery curates with from Tin City, Paso Robles.
From Turtle Rock, “We are a small, family owned winery located in Paso Robles. Our winemaking philosophy is simple, you can’t make great wine without great fruit. We source our fruit from some of the finest vineyards in the Willow Creek and Templeton Gap districts of Paso Robles. Through sustainable farming practices, low yields, and harvesting at optimal ripeness, we are able to make wines with both intensity and balance. We hope these wines reflect the beauty of the wonderful places these grapes are grown as well as the people who nurture them.”

Turtle Rock Vineyard offer their own exclusive Turtle Rock Wine Club.
“Turtle Rock wine club members are the first to be informed of new releases and are allocated six bottles twice a year, spring and fall. An active membership includes access to our members only wines, the G2 Syrah and Maturin.
After years of scores in the 97-99 range, our 2019 G2 Syrah received the coveted 100-point score from Jeb Dunnuck. Thus, access is extremely limited.”
